Planet Ford Collects Food Donations for Matthew’s Birthday

How it Started:

“In 2015…  I decided that instead of getting presents for my birthday, I wanted to give to others.  I created a project where I collected small snack items and food items with easy pop-top lids and placed them in a gallon ziploc baggie to distribute to the less fortunate.  My goal was to collect enough items to make 50 bags, but with the help of friends, family and the community, I collected enough items to make 338 baggies that held 14 food items, a bottle of water/juice, a fork, a spoon, a napkin and a mint.  I also collected 10 boxes of food that weren’t good for the baggies, but they would still help feed someone in need,” Matthew shared on his website.

“After the baggies were made, my family and I delivered them to the Star of Hope Mission for the Homeless in Houston.  The items that wouldn’t work for the baggies went to the Star of Hope Kitchen to use for meals, and the baggies went to Mr. Ken who drives around Houston getting to know the homeless to try and help get them to come to the Star of Hope and off of the street.  They gave us a tour and talked about what they do, and who my donations would help.  It made me very happy to know that all of my hard work would help others,” he added.

Matthew at a young age knew that giving to others less fortunate was the greatest gift and loves having other be happy. “My birthday wish is to help provide meals for the less fortunate,” he said. “I have all I need so I want to give to others to celebrate my birthday!”
