2018 MUSTANG COBRA JET CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY

The team at Planet Ford in Spring (serving Houston) is excited about the new 2018 50th anniversary Mustang Cobra Jet from Ford Performance. It is going to be the most powerful and quickest version from the factory ever, powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8, with performance tuned by Ford Performance to give racers a proven, durable powertrain. It is capable of running the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range while topping 150 mph and will feature a limited production run of 68 cars, which will be available in Race Red or Oxford White.

According to Ford Motor Company, 50 years ago, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet took to the staging lanes at drag strips everywhere – and along with the resulting wins, a legend was born. Now, Mustang Cobra Jet drag strip race car by Ford Performance is making it’s return – targeted to be the most powerful and quickest version from the factory yet. It is  capable of running the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range all while topping out around 150 mph.

“From the very first Mustang Cobra Jets dominating the 1968 NHRA Winternationals to our modern-day Cobra Jet racers, the Ford Performance Parts team continues to build the Cobra Jet brand based on its success at the track over five decades,” said Eric Cin, global director, Ford Performance Parts. “That, in turn, has inspired generations of Mustang fans to create their own performance machines for the street.”

The purpose-built drag racer developed on the 2018 Ford Mustang platform is limited to 68 non-VIN production cars. It includes a supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8 and unique four-link rear suspension, along with a Ford 9-inch solid rear axle from Strange Engineering. Race add-ons include NHRA-certified roll cage, Racetech FIA seats, and a drag race-specific coil-over suspension with specially designed Weld Racing wheels with 50th anniversary badging.

The result is a turnkey racer that showcases many performance add-ons available from the Ford Performance Parts catalog for Mustang dating back to the original 1968 Cobra Jet. Offered in either Race Red or Oxford White, the 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet features an available commemorative 50th anniversary graphics package and anniversary badging.

This summer, the final 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet ordering and product specifications will be released. The car is designed to be legal for National Hot Rod Association drag racing, along with several National Mustang Racers Association and National Muscle Car Association classes.

Planet Ford Recognizes March Employee Milestones

At Planet Ford in Spring, Texas (serving Houston, The Woodlands, Aldine, Conroe) we are thankful to have an amazing multi-award winning team that are dedicated and truly care about doing everything they can to assist our customers with all of their automotive needs.

Each month we pause to celebrate our teams birthdays and milestones. Yesterday, we celebrated employees with anniversaries and birthdays in March. Shawn Burns, General Manager and Operating Partner, recognized Kelly Witt for her 11 years of service and also presented John Dvorak, General Manager for Planet Lincoln, with a gift for his milestone anniversary of five years at the dealership.

Shawn also recognized our Employee of Month for March.  Congratulations to Crystal Pate for achieving the honor of Employee of the Month. 2019 Ford Bullitt Coming to Ford Dealership

Like the 1968 hit Warner Bros. film “Bullitt,” dealerships across America are bracing for a late summer blockbuster as orders have officially begun for the limited-edition 480-horsepower 2019 Mustang Bullitt.

The iconic 2019 Mustang Bullitt traces its roots to the legendary Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT fastback Steve McQueen thrashed in the action thriller “Bullitt” 50 years ago. Complete with classic cue ball shifter, the 2019 Bullitt bundles the latest Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package content in a sleek, understated design – while packing a hefty punch.

The new Mustang Bullitt delivers even more power, thanks to its performance open air intake, Mustang Shelby GT350 intake manifold, plus a larger 87-millimeter throttle body and unique powertrain control module calibrations delivering 480 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque* and deliver a top speed of 163 mph – an 8 mph increase versus the latest Mustang GT. A fully active black NitroPlate™ quad-tip exhaust comes standard.

Bullitt customers have two color choices – Shadow Black and classic Dark Highland Green. Appointments include subtle chrome accents for the unique black grille and front windows, classic torque-thrust 19-inch aluminum wheels and red-painted Brembo™ brakes.

There’s minimal badging inside and out. All that’s visible on the exterior is the circular faux gas cap Bullitt logo at the rear center. A leather-trimmed interior features unique accent stitching in green on the dashboard, door panels, center console and seats.

“The new Bullitt will be every bit as cool and charismatic as the original ’68 Mustang,” said Corey Holter, Ford car group marketing manager. “Since its introduction earlier this year, Ford dealers have been fielding calls from customers wanting to know when they can order this unique piece of automotive history.”

Mustang Bullitt will go on sale this summer for $46,595 plus a $900 destination and delivery charge.

Ford Names Unsung Hurricane Harvey Heroes

Planet Ford in Spring, Texas is proud of our communities and how everyone came together to help one another after Hurricane Harvey.  Ford Motor Company is also proud of those who worked hard and wanted to honor them. Recently, the company announced the winners of the Ford Freedom Unsung “Heroes of Harvey” Awards, celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions in their community during the hurricane relief efforts. Honorees are being recognized for their outstanding achievements at a special reception in their honor that takes place at the Bell Tower in Houston.

Made possible by a grant from Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, Ford Freedom Unsung salutes and honors individuals who went above and beyond to support the community during this difficult time. Residents of the Greater Houston Area area were invited to nominate unsung heroes who demonstrated heroic deeds during the relief efforts.

“In the face of tremendous difficulty, Houstonians came together to support each other and their community,” said Pamela Alexander, director of Community Development, Ford Motor Company Fund.  “We congratulate the winners and are proud to honor their selfless acts.”

Ford is bringing its national program to Greater Houston Area as part of its ongoing commitment to honor distinguished Americans who dedicate their lives to improving their communities and the world. Uncle Larry Jones, veteran air personality at MAJIC 102.1, will serve as master of ceremonies of the event.

Houston is one of 26 markets in the United States and Puerto Rico where Ford and its dealers have expanded their commitment to meet community needs by collaborating on programs and nonprofit outreach. The initiative, known as Operation Better World, was launched in 2008.

  • Ford Dealers, Ford Motor Company and Ford Fund have committed more than $3.5 million in Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery efforts
  • Ford Driving Dreams (FDD) program has donated 10,000 books to 10,000 children in need in partnership with First Book, and provided more than $100,000 in scholarships to 50 high school students. FDD award ceremony hosted in partnership with Ford Region and Dealers at the NASA Space Center
  • Last April, Ford Fund hosted its Driving Skills for Life program with more than 227 teens with 226 parents participating

Overall, Ford has invested more than 25 million in community building initiatives since 2000 in the state of Texas.
