Through the first half of this year, F-Series remains America’s best-selling truck on sales of 382,893 trucks – outselling second-place Silverado by approximately 118,000 trucks. Ford Maverick sales increased 7.8 percent in Q2 ahead of additional capacity coming online this month to meet continued strong customer demand.
Combined F-Series, Ranger and Maverick sales of 246,155 pickups outsold all of GM’s Silverado, Sierra, Colorado, Canyon and Hummer EV in Q2 of this year. Ford’s combined sales of F-Series, Ranger and Maverick were up 26.7 percent in Q2 over a year ago.

Nautilus sales also saw a 58.5 percent increase in June at the end of Q2.

Ford will continue to improve the BlueCruise experience for its customers and deliver it through over-the-air updates.

Heads up, Planet Ford in Spring friends and Super Duty drivers. Ford has been inspired by fighter jets to create a new, more driver friendly display. In addition, an available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist system that uses machine learning. These are just two of the new tech tools builders who are keeping this country moving have at their disposal with the all-new 2023 Ford F-Series® Super Duty® lineup of pickup trucks and chassis cabs.
This new heavy-duty truck is loaded with bumper-to-bumper innovations. The all-new Super Duty was designed to make life on or away from the jobsite more convenient and time-efficient than ever – easier to monitor gauges while driving, hitch a trailer, back up to a loading dock, make tight turns on off-road trails or install and operate upfit equipment.
“This truck represents the pinnacle of BUILT FORD TOUGH® strength and capability, now with advanced technology that makes towing and hauling even easier and businesses more productive. Whether you are towing a boat for weekend family fun, operating a boom lift to fix powerlines, or hauling heavy loads while navigating hills and tough terrain, the all-new 2023 Super Duty not only tackles the task with ease, but its smart connectivity will surprise our customers with ingenious new solutions to transform their truck experience.”-Tim Baughman, General Manager, Ford Pro, North America
The Head-Up Display2, inspired by fighter jet, gives drivers quick visual access to vital info without looking away from the road. The HUD system projects information in front of the driver on the lower half of the windshield, quickly conveying information and putting the most important information closer to the line of sight.
“We wanted to create an amazing digital experience for our most-focused truck customers, and our research led us to look at aircraft HUD concepts because of their task-oriented hierarchal structures,” said Mark Sich, Ford digital design manager. “But because pilots are trained to read information in a very prescribed and technical manner, our implementation needed the interaction to be more intuitive for the driver to immediately understand the context of the information being presented.”
Drivers can choose from three views – Normal Mode, Tow-Haul Mode or Off-Road Mode – in order to see information most important to their trip. Each view changes automatically when a new drive mode is selected. In Normal Mode, information such as speed, speed limit and navigation prompts are displayed. Tow-Haul Mode changes to include tachometer, gear and trailer brake output. And Off-Road Mode displays tachometer, drive line status and vehicle pitch and roll updates.
Driver-assist tech to get the job done
Over 90% of heavy-duty pickup owners use their trucks to tow. Super Duty, with best-in-class maximum available payload3 and best-in-class maximum available diesel gooseneck towing of 40,000 lbs.4, helps ensure customers can tow and haul with confidence. In addition, the 7.3-liter V8 gas engine produces 430 hp and 485 lb.-ft. of torque5, while the High-Output 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 diesel produces 500 hp and 1,200 lb.-ft. of torque6, all best-in-class.
Available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, an exclusive F-Series driver-assist7 feature developed in-house by Ford’s Advanced Driver-Assist Systems team, is designed to make an often-challenging task simple. Using machine learning and computer vision, the system automatically identifies trailer hitches and aligns the truck’s hitch ball to a conventional trailer coupler with the touch of a button.
This industry-first technology uses a rear camera and rear corner radars to align the hitch with the trailer coupler while simultaneously controlling the truck’s speed, steering and braking on behalf of the driver or operator.
Super Duty owners can now power a jobsite or a tailgate with available Pro Power Onboard8, with 2.0-kilowatts of output – five times more exportable power than any heavy-duty pickup. Power outlets are accessible inside the truck and cargo box, or they can be mounted on chassis cabs with a special outlet installation kit.
Cameras and sensors help interpret the world around the vehicle and enable available driver-assist7 features designed to simplify the towing experience and build confidence, including:
Tailgate Down Camera and Rear Park Aid Sensors: Industry-first camera and sensors on the top of the tailgate provide visual and audible alerts when the tailgate is lowered to make backing up to a loading dock or hitching a gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer easier than ever
Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch: Estimates payload in real time and provides guidance on trailer tongue weight distribution directly on the center touchscreen or within the taillamps
Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) for Fifth-Wheel and Gooseneck: Can be attached to a trailer to help identify when vehicles are next to a trailer and indicate this in the side view mirrors
Pro Trailer Navigation: Plots routes that can be navigated with given trailer dimensions and weight to avoid potential issues with low bridges and tight turns
Trail Turn Assist: Feature that allows drivers to virtually lock either rear wheel to shrink their turn radius to 180 degrees while navigating tight corners on the trail
Helping business owners manage their fleet
For business owners and fleet managers, retrieving important fleet data from often-unreliable plug-in devices is a thing of the past. Among the Super Duty tech features are the Ford Pro™ Intelligence software products such as Ford Pro™ Telematics9, a cloud-based platform that uses vehicle data to give fleet managers access to valuable insights to help accelerate productivity that can help reduce vehicle and fleet downtime.
Where Super Duty already presents a well-equipped mobile office with a spacious interior and available Interior Work Surface, an embedded 5G modem1 ups the ante. This first-in-class10 feature gives Super Duty owners faster Wi-Fi, mapping and navigation while on the job.
And with over-the-air software updates, Super Duty gets better over time by adding new features and capabilities to enhance the customer experience. OTAs are capable of updating the vast majority of vehicle computer modules for quick and easy wireless upgrades that help enhance features, quality, experiences, capability and convenience.
Streamlining the upfit process
The new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System (UIS) changes how business owners work with upfitters to install, operate and control body equipment and upfits – such as utility cranes or snowplows.
UIS provides aftermarket equipment makers with improved access to the truck’s electrical system and signals to seamlessly integrate after-market equipment. Equipment makers can also add digital buttons that allow Super Duty drivers to control their equipment from the SYNC® touchscreen11 inside the truck. And with more reliable connections and vehicle integrations, owners no longer have to rely on cutting and splicing into the vehicle wiring and potentially voiding their vehicle warranty.
The system also allows for high levels of customization and interlocks, like preventing the transmission from shifting into drive with a raised boom lift.
The all-new 2023 Super Duty is shipping to customers now. For more information on features, pricing and availability, please visit www.ford.com or visit your local dealer.

Planet Ford on I-45 in Spring (serving The Woodlands, Conroe, Aldine, Greater Houston) is happy to share that the Ford F-150 Lightning has garnered another award — the North American Truck of the Year™. This is the latest award in the electric truck’s trophy case and marks the third straight NACTOY Truck of the Year award for Ford. It’s also the fifth NACTOY award for Ford in the past three years.
“Earning North America’s Truck of the Year is huge for the team that has been working so hard to build and deliver as many Lightnings as possible, as quickly as possible,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “We’re moving fast to further ramp production to a 150,000 run rate this fall and pushing to improve every aspect of this truck. We’ve started delivering Lightnings from the factory with a fantastic new user interface update to improve the driver experience that we’ll also roll out to all of our Lightning owners over-the-air.”
The ultra popular and sought after F-150 Lightning is the best-selling electric truck in the U.S. since its launch in May 2022, with sales totaling 15,617, helping Ford to become the No. 2 EV automaker in the states in 2022.
“When America’s best-selling vehicle goes electric you know the transition has momentum,” said Karl Brauer, NACTOY juror and freelance journalist for Forbes. “Ford’s effort to create an all-electric F-150 is remarkable because it combines the standard truck’s dimensions, which means it retains massive aftermarket support, with substantial upgrades to areas like storage and mobile power support. It’s really the best of all worlds, giving the F-150 Lightning a wide range of applications for both traditional and new-to-the-segment truck customers.”
In order to win this honor, a vehicle must be new or substantially changed for the year. The jury of 50 professional automotive journalists from across North America choose a winner based on innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, user experience, driver satisfaction and value.
Other top awards eaned include MotorTrend Truck of the Year, The Car Connection Best Car to Buy, Edmunds Top Rated, Detroit Free Press Truck of the Year, Green Car Reports Best Car to Buy, TIME Top 200 Invention of 2022, 2023 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award, 2022 Altair Enlighten Award, Sobre Ruedas 2022 Awards, Wards 10 Best & Engines & Propulsion Systems, Internet Brands Best Car to Buy, Victory & Reseda Vehicle of the Year, TopGear.com 2022 American Car of the Year, Autoblog Technology of the Year 2022, Motor1 Star Awards, CarBuzz Save the Planet award and multiple Sabre awards.

Winter weather and freezing temperatures are headed for Spring and the greater Houston, Texas area. That means your car, truck and SUV will be faced with hazardous conditions in and around Spring, The Woodlands, Tomball, Aldine, Cypress, Conroe, and around Houston. To help you cope, Planet Ford on I-45 has some winter weather wisdom to share with you for your Ford.
HAVE YOU WINTERIZED?
If you haven’t had your vehicle winterized, now is the time. Our team at Planet Ford in Spring will help ensure your vehicle is running right.
TIRECHECK – Many Texas drivers have all-season tires, which can work well for most people. For anyone facing consistent harsh winter-weather conditions, winter tires are advised.
TIRE PRESSURE & WEAR – No matter the type of tire, the wear and tear, and right tire pressure can affect traction and performance. If your tires are worn down, it may be time for new tires. When in doubt, top by Planet Ford, and we will do a complimentary tire check. With changing temps, also make sure you’re checking your tire pressure. The temp can cause pressure to quickly change.
BRAKES – During bad weather, good brakes are key to ensure you keep your distance from the other drivers. Planet Ford can do a brake check to ensure you can slow your roll… safely.
BATTERY – When temps go down, it can decrease your battery power. Plus, cooler temperatures can require more power to start your car. Make sure your car has the starting power it needs so you don’t get stranded.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS – Cold can play havoc on old rubber wipers. Check your blades to see if it’s time for new wipers or you may want to upgrade to winter wipers.
COOLING SYSTEM – When there is a big freeze, you need to make sure you have the right coolant/water ratio to protect your vehicle from potential freezing and corrosion issues.
FULL FLUIDS – Make sure to check all of your vehicle’s fluid levels, including yoru windshield wiper fluid. A single storm can exhaust your reservoir.
HOSES & BELTS – Winter weather can be the final straw for aging belts and hoses. Make sure to get them checked out so you don’t get left out in the cold.
SPARK PLUGS, WIRES & MORE – Don’t leave anything to chance. Cold weather taxes all parts of a vehicle, so if you need any element checked, our team is here to help.
INCLEMENT WEATHER & ROADWAYS
Did you know – and we are not factoring the snow or ice yet – the AAA states that wet pavement alone contributes to nearly 1.2 million traffic crashes each year. So, what does that mean when snow and ice come into the mix? Winter storms, bad weather and sloppy road conditions are a factor in nearly half a million crashes and more than 2,000 road deaths every winter, per research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
COLD WEATHER DRIVING
Stay where you are! Best not to go out unless you have to.
Take it slow & space out. Not only do you need to slow down, but it’s also more important than ever to leave extra room to both start and stop.
Brake in the know. Make sure you know how your brakes work – not only in dry conditions but inclement so you react accordingly.
No cruising. If surfaces get slippery, it is not a good idea to use cruise control.
Fuel up! You never know what could happen, so make sure you have at least ½ tank – or better yet – a full tank of fuel.
Pack-up power. It’s always a good idea to have a bag with essentials with you in case of an emergency. Items can include: glass scraper, umbrella, flashlight, water, blanket/warm clothing, etc. P.S. Have basic car gear for a breakdown (spare, jack, jumper cables, etc.).
TIRE CHECKS
When did you last look at your tires? Do you know if you have a good tire tread depth? Are you checking to see if they are over or under-inflated? These are all factors to big factors in whether or not your vehicle has good traction, which is especially important on a wet road. Check your car, truck or SUV’s tire pressure, including your spare, monthly. Make sure to do so when your tires are cold, and not after you’ve been on the road for a long time. When in doubt, bring them into Planet Ford in Spring to be checked out for free*.
WHOA! SLOW YOUR ROLL
This is a no brainer. When it’s icy or wet, you need to slow down. One it can help reduce your vehicles chance of hydroplaning, which can become an issue with water on the ground. AAA says with as little as 1/12 inch of water on the road, tires have to displace a gallon of water per second to keep the rubber meeting the road. So, drivers should reduce their speed to correspond to the amount of water on the roadway. At speeds as low as 35 mph, new tires can still lose some contact with the roadway. Slowing down can also allow more time to react to a situation. Which leads to another important tip, allow ample space between you and the vehicles around you. Wet weather requires more braking time and reaction time. So a little extra space can help you be in a safer place as you travel in less than desirable conditions.
SKID CONTROL
The AAA shared that no matter the experience, any driving can skin out in certain conditions. If you ever find yourself in that situation, here are quick steps the AAA list on their website:
1. Continue to look and steer in the direction in which the driver wants the car to go.
2. Avoid slamming on the brakes as this will further upset the vehicle’s balance and make it harder to control.
Yes, we know. That is easier said than done, but AAA goes on to share, “Don’t panic, and avoid slamming on the brakes to maintain control.”
You can’t control others and their actions on the road, especially on bad weather days, but you can prep, slow down and take actions to help keep yourself as safe as possible.

Today, Ford introduced the all-new 2023 F-Series Super Duty lineup of pickup trucks and chassis cabs. Redesigned both inside and out, every Super Duty is built with unprecedented levels of work capability, ingenious new technology, and a suite of cloud-based services for new levels of productivity.
“From F-250 pickup to the F-600 utility truck, Super Duty is the badge America’s hardest-working men and women have come to trust to get the toughest jobs done,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “Super Duty customers are builders – the backbone of our communities and our economy. We poured every ounce of know-how and ingenuity we have into developing the truck of their dreams – smarter, more powerful, full of clever features and technology.”
Ford Super Duty is not only the tool of choice for builders; it plays a significant economic role. Super Duty also is the preferred choice for essential industries with more than 50 percent market share in utility, mining, construction, and emergency response vehicles, according to S&P Global Mobility.
F-Series Super Duty popularity also makes it a significant economic contributor to Ford Motor Company, generating more revenue than many Fortune 500 companies, including Southwest Airlines, Marriott International or Nordstrom reported for 2021.
“Super Duty is a name that is trusted to get the job done, and our customers have helped to make it the most popular commercial truck in America, bar none,” said Ted Cannis, CEO of Ford Pro. “With state-of-the-art technology, including a 5G modem connected to a powerful ecosystem of productivity-boosting software and services, the all-new Super Duty can seamlessly shift from workhorse to office of the future.”
A workhorse built to get things done
Super Duty is defined by its power and capability. The new Super Duty offers the broadest range of engines in the class:
New standard 6.8-liter V8 gas engine, targeting more low-end torque to make starting on steep grades and merging onto highways easier
7.3-liter V8 that is targeting the best gas horsepower and torque in the class thanks to improved air intake and tuning
A 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel that can go longer intervals between oil changes to stay on the job longer
New high-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel with a unique turbo, upgraded exhaust manifolds and unique tuning targeting the best horsepower and torque in the class
Every Super Duty features a Ford-designed and built 10-speed TorqShift® automatic transmission, and every chassis cab model comes standard with a power take off connection to run added equipment, like boom lifts and plows. Four-wheel drive is now standard on XLT models and above.
The new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System** (UIS) is a game changer for customers who rely on body equipment and upfits to accomplish a job, such as utility cranes or plows. This digital solution provides aftermarket equipment makers with improved access to Super Duty’s electrical system and signals to seamlessly integrate and operate their hardware into the truck’s digital displays**. Cloud-based software connects to the UIS so equipment makers can add digital buttons that allow drivers to control their equipment from inside the truck. The system also allows for high levels of customization* and safety interlocks,** like preventing the transmission from shifting into drive with a raised boom lift.
Pro Power Onboard is now available for Super Duty, featuring more exportable power than any heavy-duty pickup or chassis cab. The 2.0-kilowatts of output can power a jobsite or tailgate party. Power outlets are accessible inside the truck and cargo box, or they can be mounted on chassis cabs with a special outlet installation kit.
Not just best-in-class capabilities, but best all-around experience
Approximately 96% of heavy-duty pickup owners use their trucks to tow, and with targeted best-in-class payload††† and towing‡ for every trailer type, Super Duty ensures customers can haul with confidence.
New available driver assist technologies*** designed to simplify the towing experience and build confidence include:
Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch** that estimates cargo weight in real time and provides guidance on trailer tongue weight distribution directly on the center touchscreen, FordPass™ app or within the taillamps
360-Degree Trailer Camera System** that provides a bird’s-eye view of the trailer to make maneuvering in tight spaces easier and with virtually no blind spots
Blind Spot Information System for Fifth Wheel & Gooseneck** that can be attached to a trailer to help identify when vehicles are next to a trailer and indicate this in the side view mirrors
Industry-First Available Tailgate Down Camera and Tailgate Down Reverse Sensing System**includes a new camera and reverse sensors in the top of the tailgate that provide visual and audible alerts when the tailgate is down to make backing up to a dock or hitching a gooseneck or fifth-wheel trailer easier than ever before
Pro Trailer Hitch Assist** automatically backs the truck up and aligns the conventional hitch ball to the trailer receiver
Trailer Navigation plots routes that can be safely navigated with given trailer dimensions and weight to avoid potential issues with low bridges and tight turns
“Our goal was to leave drivers with zero blind spots, even when towing the longest trailers,” said Andrew Kernahan, Ford Super Duty chief engineer. “Camera views provide every angle, from simulating a drone to making sure customers can see behind the truck even when the tailgate is down. Hitching and towing has never been easier.”
There’s also new safety and security available technology that goes beyond camera angles:
Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering automatically brakes and accelerates to a preset speed and helps keep the truck in its lane‡‡
Trailer Theft Alert will send an alert via the FordPass app should anyone attempt to disconnect the trailer when the truck is locked
Vehicle Security, available with a Ford Pro Telematics subscription, uses sensors to monitor impact and towing events and sends alerts even when the vehicle is off***
Fleet Start Inhibit allows Ford Pro customers to schedule timeframes for when the vehicle can be started to improve confidence around fleet operations
Forward/Reverse Sensing System helps drivers by showing objects immediately in front of the vehicle and warns when objects are near the front or rear of the vehicle***§§
Front*and Rear Brake Assist helps prevent low-speed collisions to help automatically protect against hitting objects that may otherwise be hard to see***
Full-color head-up display helps keep eyes on the road by showing information right in the driver’s line of sight that changes with driving mode

Ford won the Green Debt Instruments Category at the 7th Annual Climate Bonds Awards and was recognized for issuing the largest-ever green bond from a non-financial US corporation. The awards, presented annually to coincide with World Environment Day, recognize corporate and government efforts to address the climate crisis with sustainable financing. The USD2.5 billion bond offering is helping Ford finance the company’s transition to electrification, including its investments in clean transportation, clean manufacturing and community revitalization.
“Our Sustainable Financing Framework and inaugural green bond will help us finance our shift towards a zero-emissions future by prioritizing and allocating capital for environmental and social initiatives,” said John Lawler, Ford chief financial officer. “It is key to the long-term growth and financial success of our company, and to creating healthy, thriving and just communities.”
Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Spring, Texas presented the surprise of a lifetime for two Spring Independent School District Teachers May 11, during the Spring ISD Employee Recognition Banquet held at Planet Ford Stadium. The family-owned Ford dealership helped honor the top two educators in the district. One teacher was handed the keys to a new Ford donated by Randall, Sherry, and Shelby Reed, and Planet Ford on I-45. Another award-winning teacher was presented with an all-inclusive vacation for two, also provided by the Reeds and Planet Ford.
Shawn Burns, General Manager and Operating Partner of Planet Ford was privileged to make both big announcements of the evening. The District Elementary Teacher of the Year and recipient of the new Ford courtesy of Planet Ford in Spring and the Reed family is “Drum roll,” said Mr. Burns. “The winner is Olivia Ruiz!” The Northgate Crossing Elementary School educator was moved to tears of joy hearing her name.
Teaching since 1994, Mrs. Ruiz is a third-grade English Language Arts and Social Studies, and a highly involved mother of four children. “It’s not easy. The road is rigorous,” she shared in her essay. “Often our students take priority… there are times during a school year one feels like giving up. That’s why teaching isn’t a job. It is a calling.” She says that her background as an emergent bilingual student also helps her relate to her students, their struggles, and wants to inspire all of her scholars. “I desire that my students will one day think back and realize that there was someone in their lives who pushed them to be better, who identified with them on a personal level, who gave them tools to learn, and awoke something in them to take them beyond the mere walls of their school.”
The next amazing educator announced by Mr. Burns was Anita Foreman as Spring ISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year. On behalf of Planet Ford, Mr. Burns presented her with an all-inclusive vacation for two. Mrs. Foreman is a sixth-grade Reading Language Arts teacher at Wells Middle School. Teaching since 2015, she was inspired by seeing the impact her grandmother and aunts made on students they taught and the community. “I teach to unlock hidden treasures that exist in my students,” she said. “My WHY is my passion for education and love of students. It is the fuel that helps you stay up late grading papers, attend weekend professional development sessions on your days off, and plan lessons during your holiday breaks. I am forever grateful to all the teachers who inspired me and created the passion to create a better community, state, country and ultimately, a better world through teaching.”
The Reed family and Planet Ford team share that passion for education and community. “The past couple of years have been extra challenging for everyone, especially for our amazing educators,” said Randall Reed, owner of World Class Automotive Group and Planet Ford. “In the face of it all, they continue to rise above and beyond not only in teaching the required curriculum, but in helping to shape the lives of our young peoples’ futures and our community.” Shelby Reed, President of World Class Automotive Group, agrees. “With all they are charged with and opt-in to do on top of that, we’re thankful we can be part of recognizing our educators’ outstanding work with the gift of a new Ford and a much-deserved dream getaway.”
Spring ISD’s Teacher of the Year program recognizes outstanding educators for their passion and commitment to excellence in education. Each Spring ISD school selects a campus Teacher of the Year, who is invited to submit written materials to be considered as a finalist for the district’s Teacher of the Year. A selection committee chooses an Elementary and a Secondary Teacher of the Year to represent the district.
“We’re excited to be part of celebrating all of the dedicated teachers, again,” said Mr. Burns. “Since 2014, this is one special way we can show our Planet Ford family cares about their never-ending hard work.”
Planet Ford in Spring, Texas has exciting news. This week Ford launched the all-new, electric F-150 Lightning pickup – a milestone moment in America’s shift to electric vehicles.
F-150 Lightning trucks are now being built for customers across America. F-150 Lightning is the fastest-accelerating F-150 yet and the only full-size electric pickup available now with a starting price less than $40,000.
Built at the ultra-modern Rouge Electric Vehicle Center within Ford’s historic Rouge Complex, F-150 Lightning is the only electric vehicle that is Built Ford Tough. Ford F-Series has been America’s best-selling truck for 45 years in a row[1] and is second only to the iPhone in revenue among all American consumer products, according to a 2020 study.
“Today we celebrate the Model T moment for the 21st Century at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center,” said Ford Executive Chair Bill Ford. “The Rouge is where Ford perfected the moving assembly line, making it a fitting backdrop as we make history again. The stunning anticipation for F-150 Lightning is a credit to the work of our Ford engineers and designers, and the UAW team members who are building these trucks with pride.”
Ford has unprecedented demand for F-150 Lightning with 200,000 reservations and is expanding the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center to ramp up production to a planned annual run rate of 150,000 in 2023. The company has invested a total of $950 million and created 750 jobs at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center. Ford’s investment in Michigan for F-150 Lightning alone now totals more than $1 billion, with 1,700 recently created jobs spread among five Ford plants in the state, including Van Dyke Electric Powertrain Center, where Lightning electric motors and electric transaxles are assembled, and Rawsonville Components Plant, where Lightning batteries are assembled.
“America’s real transition to electric vehicles starts now,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Farley. “F-150 Lightning is just the beginning of our ambitions for growth and leadership in digital, electric vehicles. We continue to expand our EV manufacturing footprint across the U.S., including the start of site preparation at BlueOval City, which will enable us to meet the ever-increasing customer demand for our exciting EV line-up.”
Ford is on track to deliver more than 2 million electric vehicles annually by 2026, equal to about one-third of the company’s global volume, on the way to 50% by 2030.
With acceleration from zero to 60 mph in the mid-4 second range with the extended-range battery, the freedom of a 10-kilowatt smart power plant on wheels, a starting price less than $40,000 before available tax credits and software updates that will make it even better over time, F-150 Lightning is attracting new customers to Ford. A full three-quarters of reservation holders do not currently own or lease a Ford vehicle. F-150 Lightning is also converting many of them to first-time truck or electric vehicle buyers.
Harnessing a century of manufacturing mastery for an electric pickup Ford announced its intention to build the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center at its historic Rouge complex 19 months ago, in September 2020, and has since created an ultra-modern site leveraging more than 118 years of expertise in manufacturing at scale.
Ford remains the top automaker in America in terms of U.S. production, sales of U.S.-made vehicles and employment of hourly autoworkers.[2]
“For UAW Ford members, the launch of the Lightning F-150 is an example that when electric vehicle expansion is done right, it can create good paying union jobs and opportunities,” said UAW President Ray Curry. “Today’s launch demonstrates that we can create a win-win for UAW families and communities as we build EV products for decades to come.”
The manufacturing technology in the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is just as innovative as the F-150 Lightning. It is the first Ford plant without traditional in-floor conveyor lines and instead uses robotic Autonomous Guided Vehicles to move F-150 Lightning trucks from workstation to station in the plant.
These Autonomous Guided Vehicles create more flexibility in the plant for additional production output, quality checks and product customizations, among other benefits. And changes can be made quickly without the constraints of a typical line that requires the installation of floor chains, moving mats, conveyors and overhead cranes. The plant also uses cobots, or collaborative robots, that work side-by-side with people without any safety cages needed. These cobots help with tasks that would be ergonomically challenging for employees, while also keeping employees safe.
“Today UAW members begin a new generation of building the iconic F-150, crafting a game-changing electric vehicle backed by our UAW craftsmanship and quality assembly,” said Chuck Browning, UAW vice president, director, Ford Department. “Our members are proud of building Ford Tough and are excited to build this new Lightning EV with the same UAW care and legendary performance Ford customers have grown to expect.”
The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is a zero-waste-to-landfill site, meaning none of the material generated as a by-product of the manufacturing process will go to landfills. The plant was built on the former Dearborn Assembly Plant site, using materials from the prior plant in the foundation.
Ford is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and to using 100% local, renewable electricity in all of its manufacturing operations by 2035.
The smartest, most innovative F-150 that Ford has ever built America’s favorite vehicle for 36 years straight is revolutionizing what it means to go electric.
For the first time, a full-size pickup provides cavernous lockable storage to store 400 liters of cargo out of sight. This Mega Power Frunk doubles as a cooler – washable and drainable – with lighting to see in the dark. It also has 2.4 kW of exportable power. Combined with the power available from the 5.5-foot bed and cab, it brings the truck’s Pro Power Onboard total to up to 9.6 kW from 11 power points.
At home, F-150 Lightning, together with a home integration system, can power a house during an outage for three days[3] and in time will be able to offer power back to the grid. It can charge other electric vehicles so no one is left stranded.
“It’s not every day that you get to launch a truck that will change the way Americans feel about electric vehicles,” said Linda Zhang, F-150 Lightning chief program engineer. “The team has done a phenomenal job ensuring we are offering customers unique features only made possible by the electric power unit. But it’s the drive experience that will blow people’s minds. It is simply effortless.”
F-150 Lightning accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in the mid-4-second range with the extended-range battery, making it the fastest-accelerating F-150 yet. Its planted ride ensures a ride and handling experience not usually felt by a truck driver. It also has the most torque of any F-150 ever (at 775 lbs.-ft.) and because it’s almost instantaneous, offers effortless towing.
Ford offers F-150 Lightning owners an optional BlueCruise hands-free driving experience on more than 130,000 miles of prequalified divided highways across the U.S. and Canada. F-150 Lightning will stay up to date and constantly improve through over-the-air software updates, called Ford Power-Ups.
F-150 Lightning is a zero-emissions vehicle with as much as 320 EPA-estimated miles of range. Lightning customers have access to the BlueOval Charge Network, the largest public charging network in North America offered by automotive manufacturers.
Home charging is straightforward with installation partner Sunrun. Extended-range battery customers with an 80 amp Connected Charge Station Pro can get a full charge overnight on AC power with dual on-board chargers. Customers may also have the opportunity to install solar energy – enabling them to power both their home and charge their truck with clean, renewable energy.
F-150 Lightning Pro is the first electric F-Series truck purpose-built specifically for commercial customers. F-150 Lightning Pro is offered through Ford Pro, a one-stop shop for commercial and government customers with a range of conventional and electric vehicles and a full suite of software, charging, financing, services and support on Ford and non-Ford products. F-150 Lightning Pro is backed with turnkey solutions for commercial operations, and Ford predicts commercial customers’ cost savings will begin from day one.
