2015 F-150 Boasts Truck-Loads of New Features

2015-ford-f-150-06Ford Motors and team really knows what their customers want, as shown in the most recent rendition of their landmark F-150 pickup truck. The 2015 Ford F-150 hosts a slew of innovative features that the design team dreamed up to better assist Ford drivers. All of the features were specifically engineered by the Ford design team to make interacting with your vehicle that much easier. In fact, these features were implemented to satisfy customers without them ever even noticing. “If I do my job, the customer simply intuits that things are right – both inside and outside of his truck – without even having to think about it,” said Cary Diehl, Ford human factors engineer, who worked on the design and development of the all-new F-150.

2015-F150_SKV_6199Take a look at this short clip, where Jennifer Shaw, Driver Assistance Electronics Supervisor at Ford, walks through some of the key driver assistance features found on the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 including 360-degree Camera System, Blind Spot radar monitoring, and Active Park Assist.

The Prestige Ford team loves the rest of the new features, too. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the awesome additions you can find on the 2015 Ford F-150.

  • Curve Control– this innovative system will help reduce the speed of your vehicle by up to 10mph per second if you have mistakenly entered a turn too quickly.
  • Smart towing– dashboard informs the driver of malfunctioning trailer lights.
  • Multi-contour seating– these seats are the perfect remedy after a long day in the office or on the job site.
  • Blind Spot Information System– radar sensors located in the taillamps of the truck help keep an eye on the areas that a driver may not be able to see, such as when a driver is attempting to change lanes or when backing out of a parking space
  • Lane-keeping system– side-mounted cameras sense lane markings while you drive. If your start to veer out of your lane, a small steering wheel vibration is activated to notify the driver.
  • Optional Hill Descent Control– this optional feature utilizes anti-lock braking to give the driver improved control while navigating their vehicle down a hill.
  • Individual tire pressure monitoring system– this unique feature allows drivers to see the precise air pressure of each tire, allowing them to more readily correct low tire pressures (which could also improve gas mileage)

Younger, More Affluent Drivers Gravitate Towards Ford Explorer Sport

2015 Ford Explorer SportThe Ford Explorer Sport, available at Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Spring is reportedly drawing in more drivers that you may not expect to choose an SUV. Places like Dallas, Houston, New York, Los Angeles and Denver, have more Explorer Sport drivers than ever. Nearly one-quarter of Ford Explorer Sport buyers are under 35 years old and 54 percent are 44 or younger. Many are also more affluent; 40 percent earn more than $150,000 annually, compared to 24 percent for the normally aspirated Explorer and 17 percent for the Ford brand overall.

It’s interesting to see that 15 percent of sales are to customers who are coming from luxury 15Explorer_SPORT_226be 1j_C1_EXT_WKbrands, such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. “We aren’t surprised by the luxury brand trade-ins for Explorer Sport,” said Zuehlk. “It offers world-class performance, comfort and technology at a more affordable price than traditional luxury competitors, especially in largely import luxury markets like New York and Los Angeles.”

Education levels across Explorer Sport drivers also have a story to tell. Ford reports that while 46 percent of all Ford buyers possess a university or graduate degree, 60 percent of Explorer Sport owners have attained similar levels of education. Even more interesting is the fact that 15% of Explorer Sport drivers arrived at their new purchase after having previously owned 15Explorer_Sport_HillDecentCntrl_C25138luxury brand cars like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. “We aren’t surprised by the luxury brand trade-ins for Explorer Sport,” said Zuehlk. “It offers world-class performance, comfort and technology at a more affordable price than traditional luxury competitors, especially in largely import luxury markets like New York and Los Angeles.”

The Explorer Sport continues to provide a world-class automobile experience, and Ford is proud to provide this quality of vehicle to their drivers. New Aluminum 2015 F-150 Still Stomps the Competition

2015_F150_SV3_6110When Ford announced the new 2015 Ford F-150 would be made from the same stuff you drink your soda from, many questioned how well aluminum would work. Well, Ford has proven that the company’s trucks still work as hard and can play as hard as ever. Ford touted that the newly designed truck would set new standards, and now it has.

This article from Car & Driver seems to agree. According to Ford, the new F-150 will be able to tow up to 12,200 pounds and haul up to 3300 pounds in the bed. The latter figure is particularly impressive, as the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500 models can officially haul just 2270 and 1900 pounds in their beds. The F-150’s trailering figure bests the Ram’s top tow rating of 10,650 pounds and squeaks by the Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s max trailer weight of 12,000 pounds.

In fact, Ford’s recent efforts to follow proper SAE-recommended testing practices provide a more calculated approach to arriving at the aforementioned numbers. These incredible rating shows that the aluminum body, which features high strength military grade aluminum, is a suitable body replacement for trucks.

We can’t wait for these beautiful, rugged trucks to hit the market. Be on the lookout for them later this year. In the meantime, stop by Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Spring for a look at 2014 F-150s or any other fave Ford model. See you soon!

Fuel-Efficiency Method Myths

Screen Shot 2014-09-15 at 3.38.42 PMAt Randall Reed’s Planet Ford in Spring we know consumers are always looking to make the most of every drop of fuel. While there are plenty of things you can do to help your car be more fuel efficient such as proper tire inflation, accelerating more gradually and removing excess cargo that may be stored on or in your vehicle. There are many myths according to MSN Autos. Take a look at the top 10 called out in their recent article.

  • Keeping your tank nearly full prevents evaporation- This myth is based on the assumption that cars release gas vapors resulting in inefficiencies. However, modern fuel systems are designed to prevent this from occurring.
  • Shifting to neutral at stops saves fuel- Modern fuel-injection systems sense when unnecessary gas is being injected, so having your car in neutral is unnecessary to save gas.
  • Manuals get better MPG- Modern vehicles with automatic transmissions are designed to shift gears at the optimal moment, often providing marginally better gas mileage than a majority of manual drivers.
  • Dirty filters = lower mileage- This could remain true for older vehicles that still use a carburetor. However, computerized engine control modules deliver optimal air-to-fuel ratio. It’s still proper vehicle maintenance to keep your air filter clean, though.
  • Cooler temp fill ups mean more gas- Fuel is stored in large, insulated containers underground that regulate fluctuations in temperature. So even if it’s cooler outside, the gasoline maintains roughly the same density as if it were warmer.
  • Setting cruise to controlling fuel- This particular tip is still up in the air. Many believe that maintaing this constant speed is good for gas mileage, which is quite plausible. However, cruise control on roads of varying elevations can actually have a negative impact on your gas mileage!
  • Fuel additives add up to savings- There’s strong evidence that suggests that the savings you obtain from better gas mileage do not offset the costs of products that allegedly increase your gas mileage.
  • Age-old question of mileage over the years- Proper preparation prevent poor performance. If you proactively maintain your vehicle over the years, you shouldn’t notice any change in the gas mileage you’re getting.
  • Topping off puts MPG over the top- Topping off your vehicle after rthe pump stops could actually damage your vehicle’s emissions system, so this “tip” should definitely be avoided. It can also causes damages or a huge mess to the gas pump, too.
  • Tailgate won’t negate aerodynamics- While it may seem counter-intuitive, having your tailgate up provides better gas mileage than having it down. As air flows over and around the truck, it drifts over the cab and provides a pushing force on the back of the truck.
