Planet Ford Stadium Grand Opening Nov. 12, First Game Recap

Randall Reed and Planet Ford in Spring are proud to be part of the all-new Spring ISD football stadium. The Grand Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2019 at 6 p.m. The first game hosted at the Planet Ford Stadium is recapped in this video from Spring ISD. The opening game took place at the new stadium on Oct. 31. The next game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 when Westfield plays Aldine’s Davis High School.

The Grand Opening event will feature fireworks, former NFL players and performances by all three high school bands, cheer and dance teams as the ribbon is officially cut on the new facility.

Members of the Randall Reed family, the Planet Ford GM/OP Shawn Burns and employees will be a central part of the event, which will also include giveaways and the opportunity to check out some of the latest Ford vehicles, decked out in the colors of Spring ISD’s Westfield, Dekaney and Spring high schools.

Per Spring ISD’s press release: The stadium was built thanks to community support of the district’s 2016 bond program to address long-standing facility, technology, and safety and security needs of Spring ISD. In addition to the stadium, the five-year bond program includes technology, safety and security improvements, two middle schools, building maintenance projects, a new police command center and three ninth-grade centers.

“The community should be very pleased,” said Spring ISD Board President Rhonda Newhouse. “It is a beautiful facility. Everything that we have in it is state of the art.”

The new stadium is the first for the district in more than 50 years and features a low-glare turf field with seating for 8,000 fans, a state-of-the-art video scoreboard system, great views from every seat, family-friendly concessions and modern press box amenities. The facility was designed by Stantec Architects and constructed by Durotech.
Two special features of the project include the Randall Reed Center, a community room for up to 300 guests with options for catered meetings and events, and a memorial to honor the sacrifice of area service members.
