The Randall Reed family and team at Planet Ford in Spring, Texas believe in helping our kids and community soar to success. Recently, Planet enjoyed helping New Caney ISD’s Spirit Band from Eagle Land design and fund the Eagle’s band trailer.

Planet Ford is Joining Forces with the Light Up To Live Foundation

Planet Ford located off I-45 in Spring, Texas is proud to be recognized as a partner of the Light Up To Live Foundation.

The Light Up To Live Foundation is a non-profit charity dedicated to assisting military men and women in active duty and those returning home. The foundation offers monitory support, medical consultation and life changing assistance to those suffering with conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Planet Ford is a big supporter of the Light Up To Live’s mission and our First Responders, they believe in standing behind those who work to serve our country and community, and try to give back every way they can. The mission to assist Veterans began with a documentary called Light Up to Live: The Movie. It reveals insights into the lives of American Veterans who struggle with numerous battlefield injuries, the drug-free options they can utilize and their journey to regain hope and health.

Planet Ford has provided support to the upcoming Light Up To Live Valor weekend of events.

Ford GT Supercar on Display at Planet Ford Dealership on I-45

You’ve seen the iconic Ford GT on Randall Reed’s Ford Whisperer commercials. Now, you can see it in person at Planet Ford in Spring, Texas on I-45. Only one of 250, it’s an iconic piece of American automotive ingenuity and history.

The Ford GT is Ford Motor Company’s Supercar. The GT’s has a carbon-fiber body with a 647-horsepower 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine that is technologically designed for aerodynamics.

The Carbon-Fiber Body:
The lightweight body is made up of carbon fiber with aluminum structures to minimize the weight of the high-strength subframe.

The Aerodynamics:
Aerodynamics was in mind to reduce drag and optimize downforce. The GT’s aerodynamics change on demand to meet varying driving conditions, thanks to moveable elements around the body, including special ducts in the front, and a large deployable wing. The flaps open and close depending on whether GT’s wing is up or down, so the car remains aerodynamically balanced from front to back at all speeds. When the wing is up, the ducts close to increase downforce; when the wing is down, the ducts open to decrease downforce.

The GT’s aerodynamics produce positive downforce in all conditions. At high ride height, the downforce has a balance of 30 percent front. In low ride height, the downforce balance is maintained at 29 percent front.

The Engine:
Are you an F-150 Raptor fan? Well, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine is the company’s most powerful EcoBoost yet, it was developed alongside the GT race engine and is used in the F-150 Raptor high-performance off-road pickup, which shares almost 60 percent of its parts with GT’s engine.

The team also created innovative anti-lag turbo technology that can help maximize the GT’s ability to power out of corners. This technology works by keeping the throttle open when the driver is not stepping on the gas pedal. The fuel injectors are off but turbo speed and boost are maintained for faster engine response and acceleration as soon as they hit the gas.

Further improving engine performance, GT features an all-new port and direct dual fuel-injection setup to enhance engine response. The engine is paired with a responsive seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle for nearly instantaneous gear changes and exceptional driver control.

At Planet Ford in Spring, Texas, we appreciate all our team members and all of their hard work. Each month, we gather to celebrate special recognition for employee milestones, anniversaries and birthdays for July.

Ford 8 Years Ahead of CO2 Manufacturing Reduction Goal

Ford Reduces CO2 Manufacturing Eight Years Earlier Than ExpectedAs an environmentally conscious and committed dealership, here at Planet Ford in Spring we are always excited to share positive environmental news from Ford Motor Company. The company recently announced that as part of its 19th annual Sustainability Report it has met its goal to reduce CO2 manufacturing emissions – eight years ahead of schedule.

In 2010, Ford’s Environmental Quality Office announced that it would reduce the company’s carbon dioxide emissions from manufacturing operations by 30 percent per vehicle produced by 2025.

Ford hit its target twice as fast as expected and the results were dramatic with a global CO2 manufacturing emissions reduction of more than 3.4 million metric tons from 2010 to 2017 – equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions from more than 728,000 passenger vehicles driven for one year.

“We are proud of the work we have done to achieve this goal,” said Bruce Hettle, group vice president, manufacturing and labor affairs. “We’ve made several improvements to our manufacturing operations – from the lighting we use to plant consolidations – all of which played a role in dramatically reducing our CO2 footprint.”

Ford reduced its emissions footprint through energy conservation and efficiency changes at Ford’s manufacturing facilities, such as installing more than 100,000 LED light fixtures and updating paint operations.

“Painting operations use a large amount of energy,” said Andy Hobbs, director, environmental quality office. “Introducing technology that allows wet-on-wet paint application and eliminates a drying oven, in more plants has significantly decreased energy use while maintaining quality.”

Minimum Quantity Lubrication is another energy-reducing technology. In MQL, a machining tool is lubricated with a very small amount of oil sprayed directly on the tip of the tool in a finely atomized mist, instead of with a large quantity of coolant/water mixture.

Ford is now working on setting a new goal that’s focused on renewable energy.

“We will continue to set ambitious goals and work to create innovative practices to achieve them,” said Hettle. “Our next strategy will focus on increasing Ford’s use of renewable energy while maintaining our energy efficiencies.”

Ford remains focused on reducing vehicle emissions by doing its share to deliver on CO2 reductions consistent with the Paris Climate Accord. The company is charting its course for the future by investing $11 billion to put 40 hybrid and fully electric vehicle models on the road by 2022.

Postmates, Ford and Tacos…

It’s a familiar feeling. The day inches towards dinner and your stomach makes a simple, direct plea to your heart: You want tacos. That hand pressed corn tortilla, the tangy salsa and fresh cilantro — you’re getting hungry already! But what if ordering tacos did more than just satisfy the gremlin in your gut? What if it actually…shaped the future? Ford is working with Postmates, an on-demand delivery platform, to operate a self-driving delivery service.

Our Postmates pilot is currently underway in Miami and Miami Beach with more than 70 businesses participating, including local favorites like Coyo Taco. For residents in the area, when you order tacos — or almost anything, really — through Postmates, you may be given the option to have your items delivered by a self-driving research vehicle.

What does that mean? It’s easier to show than to tell, so let’s examine the future of food delivery enabled by self-driving technology.

Some things don’t change — when your meal is ready to be delivered, a restaurant employee will place it in the vehicle. (Surprise! You ordered tacos.)

We designed a Transit Connect for this pilot program with a locker system to secure your food and allow us to serve multiple customers on one delivery route.
