Planet Ford’s New Tire Tips for Houston Drivers

Your car is a big investment and so is the required maintenance.  At Randall Reed’s Planet Ford Service Department in Spring, TX (serving The Woodlands, Conroe and the greater Houston area) we know how important it is to keep your car, SUV or truck running at peak performance. One question that is high on customer’s list: How do I know when I need to replace my tires?

There are simple indicators.  In addition, by checking your tire tread wear, you can also be alerted to other problems, such as your vehicle needing a wheel alignment.

Maintenance Matters

By regularly checking your oil, fluids, tire pressure, tire tread wear, etc. you can increase your vehicles fuel efficiency and the longevity. It is especially important to check air pressure when seasons are changing from the cold to warmer months. By having the correct air pressure, you can extend the life of your tires dramatically. Most Ford vehicles have an electronic gauge that will let you know your air pressure and alert you when you to check your tires.

2013 Ford Super Duty vs 2013 RAM 2500 vs 2013 Silverado 2500HD

That is why we created this Heavy Duty Pickup Truck face-off between the 2013 Ford Super Duty, 2013 RAM 2500, and 2013 Silverado 2500HD. We compare interior features, engine capability, towing capacity, technology, and safety.

Ford’s Super Duty wins the first challenge on engine capability with 385 horsepower and 400 foot pounds of torque. The RAM is close behind with 383 horsepower and 400 foot pounds of torque with the Silverado in last place at 360 horsepower and 380 foot pounds of torque.

The reason you’re looking at buying crew cab over a regular cab is so you and your passengers can enjoy more room, right? So why not pick the truck that has the most room? Comparing the three puckups, the Ford Super Duty wins the challenge. It has more head, shoulder, hip, and legroom than both the RAM and Silverado.

For the towing capacity the RAM and F-250 are extremely close, with the RAM 2500 towing up to 14,350 lbs and the F-250 at 14,000 lbs. The Chevy Silverado come in last place again with only 13,000 pounds. The Super Duty beats both the RAM and the Silverado with a maximum payload of 3,640 pounds. According to Car & Driver, “Ford’s mammoth Super Duty pickup proves that towing and hauling can be a comfortable and stylish affair.”

Ford wows in the technology sector with SYNC and available MyFord Touch, rear camera and back up assist. RAM offers their available Uconnect system that has Bluetooth and streaming music. The 2013 Silverado doesn’t offer any infotainment system but has plans for their 2014 model.

Overall these trucks are all pretty safe, however according to Chrysler their is a recall of over 1200 RAM 2500 & 3500 trucks due to an exterior lighting system problem that can reduce the driver’s visibility and blind oncoming traffic.

The heavy duty pickup truck segment has fierce competition, however the F-250 Super Duty emerges as a clear winner. Now that you know… Drive, compare and decide for yourself!
