Randall Reed Honored with Ford’s Salute to Dealers

The Humble ObserverRandall Reed, owner of Planet Ford- Spring, and Word Class Automotive Group, is making headlines again for his many contributions to the community. Last week, Mr. Reed received a very rare honor from Ford Motor Co., the Salute to Dealers award. This annual award is only given to six dealers worldwide.  Below is one of many wonderful articles we would like to share that has been written about Mr. Reed, our communities and this amazing honor.

Below are highlights from The Humble Observer: 

Randall Reed’s Ford dealership in Humble may serve the planet but he is most revered for his constant dedication to community.

 For these efforts, Randall Reed’s Planet Ford 59 was honored by Ford Motor Company’s Salute to Dealers program for giving back to the community. They were one of only six dealers to receive the award among 8,500 Ford dealers worldwide.

“We have a passion for the community. We feel through the dealership that this is our biggest opportunity to help the children in our school districts and those in our community who need our help,” Planet Ford 59 General Manager Chuck Kramer said. “It is important to give back to the community you work and live in because there are people that need help. I have six kids myself so it is important to serve as role models and we are blessed to have the chance to help out where we can.”

The Salute to Dealers awards were launched in 2001 to demonstrate Ford’s commitment to its thousands of dealer principals who step beyond their showroom doors to make a difference.

 A painted portrait of each honoree including Reed features a montage of philanthropic and volunteer activities that led to the award. Duplicates of the portraits will join a Salute to Dealers display in the lobby of Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

Randall Reed’s Planet Ford 59 donates more than $150,000 annually to the local Humble/Kingwood area community.

Dealership staff contributes much more than money, investing time and manpower to charitable causes that include the following beneficiaries Humble Independent School District, Village Learning Center, Memorial Hermann Project Mammogram, Northeast Hospital Foundation, FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center, MOSAIC Program and Best Buddies Program.

They also recently donated a Ford Explorer SUV to the Humble ISD MOSAIC which is a program that serves students with special needs between the ages of 18 and 22 focusing on bridging the gap and skills needed for the post secondary world.  Click here to read the rest of the story.

Salute to Dealers is a Ford community service initiative that identifies and honors Dealer Principals who improve the lives of those in need. “The dealer nominees’ and honorees’ impact on their communities is extraordinary! Each year, as a group, they provide support for and participate in hundreds of programs for a multitude of worthy causes,” reads the award recognition statement.

Mr. Reed was nominated for recognition in Ford’s Houston Region based on his commitment to community, furthering education and assisting children with special needs. His donations and leadership provide support to battered services including women’s shelters and school systems with items including books, computers, I-pads, band instruments, fixtures, facilities and playgrounds. In addition, Mr. Reed and his team help raise funds for centers that assist families and children with learning disabilities.

Moreover, for the past two years, the Reed family has led the effort within the Humble Independent School District to provide an annual Teacher of the Year award that includes a gala event at which he presents a new Ford vehicle to the top educator. This year, his generosity has expanded to include additional teacher and student scholarship recognition in other communities where he owns automotive dealerships.

“Over the past 25 years, our family of Texas dealerships has won dozens of awards, but this one, by far, is the one I cherish the most,” said Mr. Reed.

ExploringNewCustomTransportationforMosaicBestBuddiesAn example of this is that while shooting the recognition video for Edsel Ford at the National Automotive Dealers Association annual meeting, Mr. Reed spoke with the local representative of the Best Buddies and Mosaic programs, which assists and also provides transportation for children and people with special needs. He learned the group was in need of a safer vehicle, so his Planet Ford family promptly arranged for the donation of a 2013 Ford Expedition.

Ford honored Mr. Reed at the National Automobile Dealer Association (NADA) Convention in New Orleans, LA on January 24. The honorees received a portrait that captures the dealers’ involvement in their communities. The portrait will be included in the Salute to Dealers exhibit in the lobby of Ford’s World Headquarters in Detroit, MI. It will join those of previous Salute to Dealers honorees for perpetuity.

‘Tis the season to be celebrating! Planet Ford in Spring, Texas was proud to help student’s in the Best Buddies program at The Woodlands College Park High School do just that.

Friday, Dec. 13th, Planet Ford sponsored the school’s Friendship Dance, which was held at Oak Ridge High School. The event was great fun for all!

“It was a great Friendship Dance!” Thomas Everdyk, Special Education Teacher and Best Buddies Advisor, wrote in a thank you note. “With your [Planet Ford in Spring’s] contribution, we had enough food and door prizes for all the students.”

But that is not all, the students also had a special visitor.  “Our Best Buddies and their family members were surprised to see Santa in attendance,” Everdyk added.  “Please thank everyone at your company for making our holiday party the best ever.”

“Everyone at Planet Ford was thrilled to help support this celebration and the Best Buddies program throughout the year,” said Shawn Burns, General Manager and Operating Partner of Planet Ford in Spring. “We look forward to all that lies ahead for these amazing students in 2014!”
